Chargers | LAC open to re-signing Antonio Gates

Sat, 21 Jul 2018 07:55:57 -0700

The Los Angeles Chargers have continued to express interest in re-signing free-agent TE Antonio Gates, according to general manager Tom Telesco.

Fantasy Tip: The 38-year-old Gates has slowed down in recent years but is familiar with the club's offense and would make a better fantasy option than the healthy tight ends currently on the Chargers' roster. He should be viewed as a TE2 in most leagues.

Mon, 02 Jul 2018 19:37:24 -0700

Los Angeles Chargers special assistant LaDainian Tomlinson told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Monday, July 2, that he believes former teammate and free-agent TE Antonio Gates (Chargers) only wants to play for the Chargers. Chargers | LAC contacts Antonio Gates

Wed, 13 Jun 2018 19:50:52 -0700

Free-agent TE Antonio Gates (Chargers) has recently been contacted by the Los Angeles Chargers, according to general manager Tom Telesco.

Fantasy Tip: Gates probably is one of several tight ends the Chargers are considering at this point, but Gates would play right away if he re-signs with the Chargers. He has not been a great fantasy option over the last few seasons and would only be a No. 2 fantasy tight end if he returns to Los Angeles.

Chargers | QB in favor of Antonio Gates re-signing

Wed, 30 May 2018 20:20:03 -0700

Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers said he would be in favor of free-agent TE Antonio Gates (Chargers) re-signing with the Chargers this offseason. Rivers said he talked with Gates last week.

Fantasy Tip: Gates was not expected to return to the Chargers, but he is now an option for the team because of Hunter Henry's injury. Gates probably would have a decent role in the passing game but would only be a No. 2 fantasy tight end in most leagues.

Chargers | LAC considering Antonio Gates

Sat, 26 May 2018 09:18:24 -0700

Updating a previous report, free-agent TE Antonio Gates (Chargers) is a player the Los Angeles Chargers have discussed re-signing this offseason because of TE Hunter Henry's (knee) injury.

Fantasy Tip: Gates knows the offense and is probably the most likely candidate to be signed by the Chargers this offseason. He has slowed down over the last several seasons but would have a solid role in the offense if he rejoins the Chargers. He could be a No. 2 tight end in fantasy leagues.

Chargers | LA to bring back Antonio Gates?

Tue, 22 May 2018 23:43:10 -0700

The Los Angeles Chargers are likely to consider re-signing free-agent TE Antonio Gates, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Gates had previously been told he would not be brought back, but TE Hunter Henry (knee) suffered what's believed to be a season-ending knee injury Tuesday, May 22.

Fantasy Tip: Gates, who is currently unsigned, has spent all 15 of his seasons with the Chargers, so he knows the offense and has the trust of Philip Rivers. If Gates is brought back and looks poised to be the primary pass catcher at the tight end position he could have some TE2 value and maybe even a little upside.

NFL | Antonio Gates wants to play in 2018

Fri, 27 Apr 2018 20:27:20 -0700

Free-agent TE Antonio Gates (Chargers) said Friday, April 27, that he wants to continue playing, even though the Los Angeles Chargers informed him in the offseason that they do not intend to sign him.

Fantasy Tip: It would be weird seeing Gates wearing another uniform, but if he plays in 2018 that's exactly what you'll see. It's possible he could get a sniff from the Dallas Cowboys, as Jason Witten retired and they had their pocket picked by the Philadelphia Eagles for Dallas Goedert in Round 2 of the draft. Stay tuned.

Chargers | Antonio Gates unlikely to re-sign

Fri, 27 Apr 2018 14:06:40 -0700

Free-agent TE Antonio Gates (Chargers) wants to continue his playing career but has been told that the Los Angeles Chargers do not plan to re-sign him, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Chargers will be going with Hunter Henry as their starting tight end, and he will continue to be a solid contributor in the passing game. He should be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 fantasy tight end. Gates probably will be able to find a one-year deal with a team but will not be a strong fantasy option.
