Panthers | Christian McCaffrey poised for big workload

Tue, 05 Jun 2018 10:42:28 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey will be the featured back this season following the release of Jonathan Stewart, according to ESPN's David Newton, who reports head coach Ron Rivera said Monday, June 4, that he sees no reason why McCaffrey cannot reach 200 carries in 2018 after finishing with 117 as a rookie.

Fantasy Tip: Norv Turner has given his lead back at least 200 carries in seven of his eight full seasons as an offensive coordinator, and there's no reason McCaffrey can't add to that number. Newton speculates McCaffrey's ability as a receiver should not affect his number of carries, although the Panthers' addition of D.J. Moore and the return of Greg Olsen will probably knock his team-high 80 receptions down a bit. Even with C.J. Anderson on board, McCaffrey is likely to become a fantasy RB1 in all formats if he sees 250 touches.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey noticeably stronger

Tue, 29 May 2018 09:09:25 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey estimates he has "gained five pounds of good muscle" this offseason, according to Bill Voth of Panthers.com.

Fantasy Tip: It means he should be roughly 208 pounds at the moment if the 203 pounds he was listed at last season was correct. While McCaffrey broke 27 tackles on receptions - tied for fourth-most in the league - he broke only 20 tackles as a runner. Even with the admission of C.J. Anderson, McCaffrey should be poised for more carries in his second season, so anything he can do to increase his yards per carry (3.7 as a rookie) is a good thing. Consider him a low-end RB1 in PPR with huge upside.

Panthers | New partner for Christian McCaffrey?

Sun, 04 Mar 2018 18:27:24 -0800

The Carolina Panthers need to add a "physical presence" at running back to pair with RB Christian McCaffrey, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: With Jonathan Stewart out of the mix, it makes sense for the Panthers to find a power back to pair with McCaffrey. McCaffrey is going to be a RB1 candidate in PPR formats in 2018, but if Carolina spends a quality pick on another back, McCaffrey could remain limited as a rusher.

Panthers | CAR still thrilled about Christian McCaffrey

Tue, 27 Feb 2018 10:14:37 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey's "versatility is invaluable" and "his quickness is elite," according to general manager Marty Hurney. "I think he can run between the tackles. We put him in the slot. … I think he can play all over. He's smart and his versatility gives an offensive coordinator a lot of options with what he can do. He's a weapon. And we forget he was a rookie last year. He's only going to get better," Hurney said.

Fantasy Tip: While the Panthers did a fine job of using McCaffrey in the passing game as a rookie (80 catches), they rarely were able to spring him loose as a runner due to a combination of poor blocking and stacked boxes. With Jonathan Stewart's spot on the roster in question for 2018, McCaffrey could be asked to handle in upwards of 250 offensive touches. If that happens, last year's No. 8 overall pick could be worthy a first-round pick in PPR leagues this summer.

Panthers | Norv Turner talks up Christian McCaffrey

Tue, 23 Jan 2018 17:24:07 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey "had an unbelievable rookie year and did a lot more than that a lot of people would be asked to do and handled (it) all," offensive coordinator Norv Turner said. "He's got such talent, you're just going to keep finding ways to get him the ball and try to create more space for him. That hard-nosed running between the tackles he can certainly do, but I don't know that's what you want to lead with him. Christian is ahead of (where Darren Sproles was), and there are some things we can do that he did, but Christian can run wide receiver routes. There's a lot of things we did with Darren that apply, and there are some things that I think we can do differently with Christian," Turner said.

Fantasy Tip: As good as McCaffrey was as a rookie, he hasn't come close to hitting his ceiling. The Panthers did not block well in the running game for him or Jonathan Stewart. And despite his 80 catches, former offensive coordinator Mike Shula did not line him up as a receiver nearly as often as he should have. With that said, McCaffrey still piled up 197 offensive touches in 2017. Turner would be wise to push that number over 225. If that happens, McCaffrey could push for 1,500 total yards and 10 touchdowns in 2018.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey scores long TD

Sun, 07 Jan 2018 17:16:13 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey hauled in six receptions for 101 yards and a 56-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of the NFC Wild Card Game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Jan. 7.

Fantasy Tip: McCaffrey's long touchdown was the big play of the game for the Panthers, as they had a chance to win in the final moments. He has a bright future, especially as a receiver out of the backfield, and he'll be a favorite of PPR fantasy players for many years to come.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey totals 11 touches

Sun, 24 Dec 2017 13:51:06 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey rushed nine times for 39 yards in Week 16 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he added two receptions for 19 yards on four targets.

Fantasy Tip: McCaffrey had a hard time against the Buccaneers defense, but he was the better back between he and Jonathan Stewart in this one. The rookie hasn't scored a rushing touchdown in the past five games, but he has three receiving scores during the span.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey has huge afternoon

Sun, 17 Dec 2017 15:33:54 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey rushed 12 times for a game-high 63 yards in Week 15 against the Green Bay Packers, and he added six receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown on seven targets.

Fantasy Tip: After being left in the dust by Jonathan Stewart last week, it was the rookie shining in this one with 140 total yards from scrimmage and the score. He faces another favorable matchup against the Buccaneers in Week 16.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey goes full

Fri, 15 Dec 2017 14:51:09 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (shoulder) was able to practice in full Friday, Dec. 15, and he was removed from the injury report ahead of the Week 15 game against the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: McCaffrey should be good to go, and he is a decent RB4 in standard formats and a good RB3 or flex option in PPR leagues.
