Chargers | LA to bring back Antonio Gates?

Tue, 22 May 2018 23:43:10 -0700

The Los Angeles Chargers are likely to consider re-signing free-agent TE Antonio Gates, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Gates had previously been told he would not be brought back, but TE Hunter Henry (knee) suffered what's believed to be a season-ending knee injury Tuesday, May 22.

Fantasy Tip: Gates, who is currently unsigned, has spent all 15 of his seasons with the Chargers, so he knows the offense and has the trust of Philip Rivers. If Gates is brought back and looks poised to be the primary pass catcher at the tight end position he could have some TE2 value and maybe even a little upside.

Chargers | Hunter Henry tears ACL

Tue, 22 May 2018 18:47:25 -0700

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry (knee) suffered a torn ACL during a drill in OTAs on Tuesday, May 22. While he is scheduled to get a second opinion Wednesday, May 23, he is expected to miss the 2018 season.

Fantasy Tip: It's a crushing blow for the Chargers and fantasy owners alike, as Henry was primed to take the next step into the elite group of tight ends this season with Antonio Gates no longer around. While they could see if Gates is in interested in a reunion, this injury leaves Virgil Green atop the depth chart for now. Assuming things stay the same as they are now, the Chargers may utilize more three- and four-wide sets.

Chargers | Hunter Henry recovered from injury

Tue, 01 May 2018 00:49:54 -0700

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry (abdomen) is healthy now from the lacerated kidney he sustained last year in Week 14, which cost him the remainder of the season. "It's something where I can't push my rehab to try and get back on the field and something I can't play through because I kind of look at myself like, if it's an injury, I feel like I can play through it," he said. "I just kind of have that tough factor about me. But with something internal, it's hard. You can't play around with that." Henry was present during the second phase of the club's offseason program Monday, April 30, running routes on the field with the first-string offense.

Fantasy Tip: With Antonio Gates no longer in Los Angeles, that means Henry is now the only main tight end in town and could be primed for a huge third season with the Chargers. He's already displayed a ton of potential, and with Gates not around to steal numbers and touchdowns from the youngster, Henry looks like he's going to be one of the most impactful TE1 options in the year ahead.

Chargers | Hunter Henry done for season

Tue, 19 Dec 2017 14:41:55 -0800

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry (kidney) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Fantasy Tip: It will be the Antonio Gates show at tight end to finish the season. Gates is a sneaky start for those in fantasy championships and a cheap option in DFS contests. Remember, he scored last week for the first time since Week 2.

Chargers | Hunter Henry has lacerated kidney

Mon, 18 Dec 2017 13:50:28 -0800

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry (kidney) suffered a lacerated kidney in Week 15. His status is uncertain at this time.

Fantasy Tip: As tough as football players are, playing with a lacerated kidney isn't conducive to success. If Henry is sidelined then Antonio Gates suddenly becomes fantasy relevant again. He scored yesterday, too, and would be worth picking up for Henry owners.

Sat, 16 Dec 2017 21:48:35 -0800

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry caught three passes for 28 yards in a 30-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Dec. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Henry cooled off after three solid outings, but it was a rough night overall for the Chargers offense. Henry has TE1 upside, but his lack of consistency keeps him in the lower end of the tier.
