Jets | New York could keep four quarterbacks

Tue, 03 May 2016 16:15:31 -0700

New York Jets QBs Geno Smith, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg, and possibly free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) could all be on New York's roster when the 2016 regular season commences. General manager Mike Maccagnan said if it's in the best interest of the team then they will keep four quarterbacks. "It's been done before," Maccagnan said. "To me, it's a position where you have to take some time to really invest, grow and develop players."

Fantasy Tip: The Jets aren't investing as much as they should be, though, as Fitzpatrick is still on the free-agent market. Smith is in line to start right now, but he has proven to be too inconsistent to consider starting in tradition fantasy leagues. Fitzpatrick has the most value for the Jets and for fantasy purposes.

Jets | NYJ had interest in top pick

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 16:52:38 -0700

New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said the team inquired about the availability of the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft before the Tennessee Titans traded the pick to the Los Angeles Rams.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets will not have a chance to select one of the top two quarterbacks in the draft but could consider trading up for a chance to select Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch. Lynch could receive a chance to compete for the starting job if he is selected by the Jets and they do not add another quarterback. He likely would only be a No. 2 quarterback in deeper leagues if he won a starting job but would have value in keeper leagues.

Jets | GM prefers to trade down in draft

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 11:51:54 -0700

Updating a previous item, New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan has considered trading up in the draft to theoretically select Oregon QB Marcus Mariota, but the GM would prefer to trade down and accumulate more picks. "It's almost like a portfolio," Maccagnan said. "Do you pick one stock you think is going to get the big return or do you pick three stocks which may not actually hit the same ceiling but the overall value of it actually gets a higher yield."
