Chiefs | Surgery imminent for Spencer Ware

Wed, 30 Aug 2017 12:10:27 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) will have immediate surgery to repair a torn posterior collateral ligament and lateral collateral ligament. He will not play in 2017 and faces a rigorous rehabilitation program.

Fantasy Tip: Kareem Hunt is clearly the running back to own in Kansas City now, with Charcandrick West serving as the next man up. Ware can be safely dropped in redraft leagues, while Hunt warrants low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 consideration.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware likely done for the season

Sun, 27 Aug 2017 09:02:50 -0700

Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) has been diagnosed with a torn PCL and has additional damage to his LCL, according to team trainer Rick Burkholder, whose staff believes Ware "probably needs season-ending surgery." Head coach Andy Reid has already designated rookie Kareem Hunt as the "next man up."

Fantasy Tip: It appears as Hunt's fantasy stock can officially skyrocket. Already ticketed for something of a feature-back role for the six-to-eight weeks Ware was initially expected to miss, the rookie enters the high-end RB2/low-end RB1 conversation. There's an outside chance in less competitive leagues Hunt will drop to the fourth round, but he may go as early as the late second or early third round now.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware dealing with LCL, PCL injuries

Sat, 26 Aug 2017 17:27:28 -0700

Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) suffered damage to his LCL and PCL, although NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the tests on Ware's knee to this point have been inconclusive.

Fantasy Tip: It's rarely a good sign when MRIs come up inconclusive, but moderate LCL and PCL sprains would fall under the six-to-eight week timeline that has been reported for Ware. Either way, rookie Kareem Hunt is in the driver's seat to become the feature back in Kansas City for at least the first month of the season, and possibly longer if he starts out the season fast. While Hunt will likely begin to come off the board in the fourth round of fantasy drafts now, Ware may go undrafted in shallow leagues.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware may be out 2-8 weeks

Sat, 26 Aug 2017 11:17:37 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) could miss as little as two weeks because of his knee injury or could miss as much as eight weeks, according to a source. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI Saturday, Aug. 26, to determine the severity of the injury.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to look for a better timetable for Ware's recovery because it affects the value of some players. Ware should continue to be considered a low-end No. 2 running back if he only misses a few weeks. Kareem Hunt would move up draft boards and be a No. 2 fantasy back if Ware misses closer to eight weeks.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware injury not 'clear-cut'

Sat, 26 Aug 2017 10:43:54 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) is expected to return before the end of the season, but head coach Andy Reid acknowledges there is much uncertainty regarding his situation. "It's not one of those things that's just clear-cut, end of the season. That's not what it is right now. We've got to go through the whole process here in this case," Reid said.

Fantasy Tip: Early speculation - and that is all it is at this point - has Ware missing roughly four to six weeks with a PCL injury, but owners drafting this weekend will want to continue checking for updates on a regular basis before investing either a late pick on Ware or spending a third- or fourth-round pick on rookie Kareem Hunt. Stay tuned.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware may have PCL injury

Fri, 25 Aug 2017 20:55:30 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) likely suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury Friday, Aug. 25, but he will have an MRI Saturday, Aug. 26, to determine the extent of the injury.

Fantasy Tip: While Ware may have avoided a season-ending injury, a PCL injury could still mean a lengthy recovery. Either way, Kareem Hunt's stock is on the rise, and he looks like a low-end RB2 or strong RB3.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware carted off

Fri, 25 Aug 2017 17:15:51 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) was carted off the field after suffering a knee injury during the preseason game Friday, Aug. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should look for an update on Ware's status after the game to see if he will miss extended time. Kareem Hunt likely would receive a much bigger role in the offense if Ware misses significant time and would be a No. 2 fantasy running back in most leagues. Ware can still be a No. 2 or No. 3 running back if his injury is considered minor.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware injures hamstring

Tue, 13 Jun 2017 20:58:47 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (hamstring) suffered a minor hamstring injury during practice Tuesday, June 13.

Fantasy Tip: Ware may sit out the final two days of minicamp but should be read for training camp. He posted 921 rushing yards, 447 receiving yards and five total touchdowns in 2016 and should receive most of the work again this season. He probably should be considered a No. 2 running back in most fantasy leagues.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware still likely to start

Tue, 09 May 2017 06:53:11 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware is likely to start and see the majority of the work as the featured back, in the opinion of beat writer Adam Teicher.

Fantasy Tip: Ware posted a 214-914-3 line rushing last year, and he had a 33-447-2 line receiving. He wasn't nearly as effective as in 2015 when he averaged 5.6 yards per carry in a smaller sample size. The Chiefs drafted Kareem Hunt, and he could see a decent-sized role with a good camp. Ware is looking like a low-end RB2 in fantasy.

Chiefs | Andy Reid endorses Spencer Ware

Fri, 14 Apr 2017 19:35:22 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware has a place in the offense, according to head coach Andy Reid. "I'm a big Spencer Ware fan," Reid said. "Well, the kid's dirty tough. He's going to give you an honest down every snap. He's not real fancy that's not his deal, but he can block, he can catch and he can run."

Fantasy Tip: Kansas City could bolster its backfield before the start of the season, but if Ware breaks camp as the starter, he can provide RB2 production.
