NFL | Coby Fleener still recovering from concussion

Sat, 23 Jun 2018 07:28:43 -0700

Free-agent TE Coby Fleener (concussion) said he is still experiencing some concussion symptoms, although they have not had a major impact on his everyday life. Fleener caught passes and did some running during rehab workouts with the New Orleans Saints this spring without experiencing any setbacks but hasn't cleared the league's concussion protocol. His agent has heard from multiple teams interested in signing him if he's able to resume his playing career.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener will be 30 years old in September and is coming off a disappointing 2017 campaign where he only caught 22 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns over 11 games. He should not be viewed as a great fantasy option regardless of where he lands, assuming that he is able to return to the NFL.

Saints | Coby Fleener let go

Mon, 07 May 2018 11:47:55 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener was released Monday, May 7, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener is coming off a disappointing 2017 season where he played only 11 games and finished with 295 yards and two touchdowns. He could receive some interest from other teams but will not be a great fantasy option. Benjamin Watson should take over the starting job with the Saints and can be a No. 2 tight end in deeper leagues.

Saints | Coby Fleener a cut candidate

Tue, 16 Jan 2018 09:27:56 -0800

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener is set to count $8 million against the cap with a $6.3 million salary in 2018, making it highly unlikely he will stay with the team unless he agrees to a pay cut on the five-year, $36 million contract he signed in 2016. The Saints choose to release him, they would still be charged $4.8 million in dead money.

Fantasy Tip: Fleener was lost for the season due to injury after Week 12, but he had already long become an afterthought in the offense, as half of his 22 catches for the season came in the first four weeks. While New Orleans would be even more dynamic on offense if it had a field-stretching tight end, it's becoming pretty clear Fleener will not become that guy in Sean Payton's offense. He could be cut in March.
