Patriots | Julian Edelman's suspension upheld

Tue, 03 Jul 2018 16:20:24 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman's appeal to his four-game suspension was denied Tuesday, July 3. He will officially serve the suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

Fantasy Tip: Chris Hogan and Rob Gronkowski stand to benefit the most from Edelman's absence, but Jordan Matthews now represents a sneaky late-round selection. Look for Rex Burkhead and James White to be more involved in the passing game, too. Burkhead is a mid-round PPR targets and White is a late-round flier.

Patriots | Julian Edelman's appeal hearing Monday

Mon, 25 Jun 2018 05:08:52 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman's appeal of his four-game suspension will be heard Monday, June 25, and sources say he plans to mount a vigorous defense that questions the NFL's handling of his case. The substance for which Edelman tested positive wasn't one the league's drug testers recognized. According to sources, he's also contesting the way the documentation and delivery of Edelman's test results were handled.

Fantasy Tip: The 32-year-old will still have PPR value, but if he's forced to miss four games, his stock will take a huge hit. His durability and consistency are also concerns, and he'd fall into the WR3 territory if the ban holds up.

Patriots | Julian Edelman's appeal not heard yet

Thu, 07 Jun 2018 13:20:25 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman has not had the appeal of his impending four-game suspension heard by the NFL at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation to see if Edelman's suspension remains after the appeal is heard. He is expected to be the No. 1 receiver for the Patriots this season but would lose some fantasy value if he misses the first four games. He can still be a No. 2 receiver in most leagues, but owners would need solid backup plans if he sits.

Patriots | Julian Edelman facing suspension

Thu, 07 Jun 2018 10:47:02 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman has a four-game suspension looming for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, according to sources. Edelman has appealed the suspension.

Fantasy Tip: These suspensions are rarely, if ever, overturned, so plan to be without Edelman for the first quarter of the season. Chris Hogan receives a big bump up in value and has WR2 upside, while Jordan Matthews now demands more attention in mid-to-late rounds. As for Edelman, he falls out of the PPR WR1 conversation.

Patriots | Julian Edelman done for the season

Sat, 26 Aug 2017 09:34:47 -0700

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) suffered a complete ACL tear in his right knee and will miss the 2017 season, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: This was the expected outcome after Edelman fell to the ground following a violent cut on his right leg in Friday's exhibition game against the Detroit Lions, but it is still a major setback for the Patriots as the slot receiver is Tom Brady's most trusted underneath weapon. Chris Hogan figures to see the biggest bump for fantasy purposes and should now be considered a borderline WR3 in PPR formats, while Danny Amendola, Malcolm Mitchell and Brandin Cooks should see more targets as well.

Patriots | Julian Edelman MRI scheduled for Saturday

Fri, 25 Aug 2017 19:44:17 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) will have an MRI on his injured knee Saturday, Aug. 26, not Sunday, Aug. 27, as previously reported. The team suspects Edelman suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: If Edelman is out of for the season, Brandin Cooks should be the biggest beneficiary. Chris Hogan and Malcolm Mitchell should also enjoy a boost in value. Even without Edelman, Tom Brady would remain a QB1.

Patriots | Julian Edelman likely tore ACL

Fri, 25 Aug 2017 19:37:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) likely tore his anterior cruciate ligament Friday, Aug. 25, according to a source, but the full extent of the injury won't be known until an MRI Sunday, Aug. 27.

Fantasy Tip: The loss of Edelman isn't ideal, but Tom Brady still has enough firepower at his disposal to provide QB1 production. Brandin Cooks vaults firmly into the WR1 conversation, and Chris Hogan becomes an upside WR4. Malcolm Mitchell is also worth grabbing in the later rounds.
